Invisalign Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a state-of-the-art orthodontic system that straightens your teeth and improves your bite with a series of removable aligners made from clear, BPA-free plastic. Invisalign is a discreet, comfortable, and convenient alternative to traditional metal braces, which is why over six million people worldwide have used it to straighten their smiles.

What conditions can Invisalign treat?

Your dentist at Advanced Dental Centers uses Invisalign to treat many of the same conditions that would be otherwise corrected with traditional metal braces. Invisalign can be used to improve:

  • Crowded teeth
  • Widely spaced teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Open bite

Many patients also use Invisalign to generally straighten their teeth and cosmetically enhance their smile.

How do I get started with Invisalign?

Your dentist takes an impression of your teeth and uploads it to a computer, where it becomes a virtual model of your smile. They manipulate that smile to map out the journey your teeth need to take to reach their target alignment, and your aligners are designed to match the number of steps in that journey.

When you wear your aligners, they exert a small, but constant amount of pressure on your teeth that gradually pushes them towards their target alignment. You wear your aligners as often as possible (ideally for at least 22 hours every day) but take them out whenever you need to eat, brush, or floss. You move on to the next aligner in your series every two weeks and check in with the team at Advanced Dental Centers every six weeks to monitor your progress.

Treatment time varies depending on your condition, but most patients arrive at their dream smile within nine to 15 months, with an average of 18-30 aligners for a full treatment.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Compared to traditional metal braces, Invisalign is:

Your aligners are made of smooth plastic that won’t tear up the insides of your cheeks, unlike braces.

No need for special tools or restrictive diets to keep your teeth clean during treatment. Simply remove your aligners whenever you need to eat, brush, or floss, and put them back in after.

Invisalign is virtually invisible on your smile, unlike the mouthful-of-metal look associated with braces.
